For me, sound recording is an important way to catalogue the biophony & geophony of a location at a given point in time. The landscape is ever changing and so is the life it supports. My sound recordings capture a moment that will never again exist – a “sonic photograph”.
Location: Hauturu Island,
Habitat: Mixed forest and grassland
Notes: Hauturu Island supports the most diverse assemblage of native fauna of any island in New Zealand. This soundscape includes the calls of tui, bellbird & kokako and represents an important record of what New Zealand must have sounded like before the invasion of introduced species. More info
